For a few years now I’ve been making short films from my photographs, set to poetry and music. During covid lockdown, I recorded a piano track over bass and drum parts built on each tune’s chord sequence, then added my voice reciting the poem. I would leave space for solos — I would ask some professional musicians I know to record their parts remotely — then I would mix it all, adding reverb where needed, and search my archive for the photographs or make vi that make the film. Sometimes the other musicians film themselves playing, and that goes into the final cut.
